As the founder of Life Mastery Institute, a life coaching certification program, I hear a lot of stories of new coaches who experience incredible success in their first or second year as a coach.
One of my favorite stories of how one of my coaches got started is from Patricia.
Patricia met her client in a taxi on the way to the airport after accepting a voucher to fly out of a different airport due to an overbooking. The lady who sat with her in the back of the taxi asked what she did for a living and Patricia answered, “I’m a life coach.”
The woman’s eyes got really big and she said, “Wow, I can’t believe it! What a coincidence. I’m a physician, and just the other week I was speaking with my sister-in-law about a work problem I had and told her I needed to find a therapist, and she told me, ‘you don’t need a therapist, you need a life coach’. And I thought, where am I going to find a life coach? And here you are!”
That’s how Patricia landed her very first life coaching client — in a taxi at the airport, on her way home from her life coach certification training.
I can tell you story after story of life coaches we have trained who have had moments of serendipity like that. They were faced with making a decision to help someone make a turnaround in their life, and they took it – and it led to them starting what ended up becoming a very financially successful life coaching business.
A Life Coaching Business Success Story
Rather than conveying these stories second-hand, I decided to let one of my Life Mastery Institute coaches, Stacey Berger, record a video telling you about her life. The reason I want to share this video with you is a message of hope to you:

Stacey woke up one morning three years ago and decided that she didn’t want to go to work. That was unusual for her, because she was one of those people who’d jump out of bed in the morning because she loved her job. 3 Things To Look For in a Life Coach Certification Program
Yes, I am the founder of a life coaching certification program. But I didn’t create this video just to sell you on my program. You’ll want to do your research. There are a lot of good certification programs out there. You just need to find one that:
- Has a proven track record with their coaches. It’s not just a clearinghouse for people to learn how to teach life coaching, but it is a certification program where the instructors themselves have had many years of success developing their own life coaching business.
- You want to find a certification program that not only teaches you the facets of life coaching, but instructs you on the economic engine of running your own coaching business. You may be a great coach, but if you don’t know how to get clients, you won’t be very successful financially. You won’t be helping very many people if you’re not making an income.
- You want to find a value match. You want to work with someone who actually cares about your success and works with you in real transformational coaching, because that’s where the real results happen.
