Sometimes, we can get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, so much so, that it’s easy to lose track of what we really want. We’re so busy looking at what has to be done that we forget what we’re actually doing it for.
We bounce from one project to another, doing whatever is asked of us or whatever ‘needs’ to be done… but we can often lose sight of whether any of it is bringing us closer to a life we want to be living.
For some people, this situation can become so circular that they don’t even remember what kind of life they DO want to live!
Do you?
If you could change just one thing about your life, what would it be?
Would you choose to have more time or more money? Would having more friends, a new love, a different job, give you the sense that you’re making a real difference in the world?
I invite you to take a moment to write that one thing down. Don’t ask yourself whether it’s possible, and don’t judge yourself on whether or not it’s the wisest and most selfless use of your wish. Just choose one thing that would make you truly happy.
If you can think of more than one thing, go ahead and write them all down. The point here is to expand our thinking, not restrict it.
Now take it one step farther.
If you had this thing in your life – this deep love, this impactful and enjoyable career, this luxurious lifestyle, or whatever it is – what kind of changes would that cause in your life?
What would your everyday life look like, if you had what you want? Take a moment to picture it, or even better, write that down, too.
If this thing, feeling or relationship you desire is something you’ve never had before, it could be difficult to imagine what your life would be like if you had it. So if you’re having trouble picturing it, start with the moment when you first wake up in the morning.
How does it feel to awaken with your soul mate at your side or to feel the rush of joy and energy that comes when you look forward to going to work? What are you aware of when you realize that you’re waking up to a full day of free time giving you the opportunity to spend it doing whatever you want?
What do you experience as you get ready for the day, eat a nutritious breakfast you enjoy, and then spend that day either doing work that you love, or relaxing and pampering yourself?
If your life has drowned out your ability to dream, this is a great place to start.
Every day, write down the things that would make you happy. Imagine what life would be like if you had them, and then write that down, too.
It doesn’t have to take long. Just 15 minutes every day can expand your mind, help you to determine what you truly desire in your life, and prepare your conscious and subconscious mind to create and sustain this new way of BE-ing.
And if you want some help with this step, my team and I are here for you.
