LifeCoachPsychologistRecently, some people have been asking what the difference is between Life Coaches and Psychologists. Both professions help people to overcome their internal obstacles so they can live healthier, happier lives. So, how do you know which one you should become?

Today, I’m going to explain some of the differences between coaches and psychologists, so you can get a better idea of which path is right for you.

1. Life Coaches don’t need a college degree

In order to become a psychologist, you must study for 5 years or more, depending on the area where you live, and you may also have to undergo 1 or more years of internship before you are fully certified.

Life Coaches, on the other hand, don’t always need to be certified, though again that depends on where you live and what laws apply to the profession there. But even if you do choose to boost your credibility and improve your coaching by getting certified, it doesn’t take nearly as long.

This means that, as a Life Coach, you can start working with people far sooner, and you don’t have to wait as long to start building a prosperous business.

2. Psychologists heal mental and emotional wounds, but they don’t teach people how to create their ideal lives.

While helping people to heal can be a critical step, it’s only part of the picture. If people don’t know how to stop repeating the patterns in their lives that have caused them ongoing pain, they will continue to accumulate new wounds.

And even if a psychologist can help their clients stop repeating pain, they aren’t trained or focused on helping those clients to start attracting the things they most desire.

If a person has a dream or goal that they don’t know how to achieve, most psychologists can’t help them – but a Life Coach can.

3. In some states Psychologists can prescribe medicine that makes you feel better for a while; Life Coaches can prescribe action plans that create permanent change.

While it’s true that some situations may require medicine, drugs and chemicals will not give your clients the tools they need to create the lives of their dreams.

If you want to help your clients make the biggest and best changes possible, treating their symptoms or healing the root cause of their wounds is only part of the picture. You also need to be able to guide them to take actions that will create permanent improvements, in both their mindsets and their lives.

If you want to focus on healing wounds, psychology may be right for you.
