You only need to be one step ahead of someone else in order to help that person. As long as you have wisdom that they don’t, or knowledge that they lack, or even just a perspective they can’t see because they are IN their situation, you have something valuable to offer.
As long as you can see even a single move further than they can in their journey toward the life of their dreams, you’ll be able to get them to move forward.
When you’re feeling uncertain of your knowledge or expertise, one thing that I’ve found extremely useful is to have a reliable, time-tested curriculum that you can walk your client through. Instead of having to come up with things from scratch, and reinvent the wheel with every single client, having a proven and powerful system in place will help you coach with more confidence, and give your clients much better results.
I have a curriculum that I myself use, and I’ve found it to be extremely effective in helping my clients have consistent, exciting success. Instead of being just one step ahead of my clients, I have a template for the entire journey – flexible enough to match an array of peoples’ goals, dreams and starting points, but solid enough that I know that if they use this system, they CAN create the life of their dreams.
