In a previous blog, I mentioned a common subconscious commitment some people have about getting rich: “I’m going to get my money by working long and hard – anything else would be dishonest.”
Do you ever find yourself feeling uncomfortable with the idea of being rich, or thinking you MUST work hard all day, every day? Do you feel like it wouldn’t be fair for you to charge your clients enough that you could become wealthy, while the clients themselves sometimes have to struggle to put together the funds they need to afford you?
A Common Belief about Having Money
There’s a common belief, especially among individuals who are still struggling to create wealth: that for one person to have a lot means many people have to go without. In movies, books, and in everyday life, you’ll see and hear about rich people being demonized as greedy money-grubbers who are taking more than their share, and making life harder for everybody else.
Here’s Your Challenge
Today, I would like to challenge that belief. If you truly believe that being rich is evil, even if the idea lives only in your subconscious, it will sabotage all of your attempts to create the financial freedom that will allow you to spend more of your time on the people, activities and work that you love. So right now, I would like to invite you to consider the following:
1. How do your closest friends and family talk about money and rich people?
Are banks, CEOs and millionaires the ‘bad guy’ in their eyes, simply because they have a lot of money (and aren’t giving it to them)? Do they speak of wealthy people as being selfish and uncaring, while implying that the poor are kinder and more honest souls? Remember, you are the sum of the 5 people closest to you. Their attitudes WILL rub off on you, so be sure to surround yourself with people who have a positive relationship with money.
2. What would you do, and how would you feel, if you had a lot of money?
Would you become that cruel, money-grubbing millionaire who bullies his employees and makes them work long hours while paying them minimal wages? Whatever your image of a greedy rich person is, would that be you?
Or would you bless people with well-paying jobs, give generous gifts to your friends and family, and blow the mind of your charity of choice with donations you once thought you’d never be able to afford?
Would you become lazy? Or would hiring out the jobs you aren’t well suited for simply free you up to spend more time on the work that you’re passionate about and uniquely equipped for, so you can make a bigger impact and change more lives?
How to Change Your Money Paradigm To Bring You More Abundance
The next time you have the thought that getting the money you’re worth would mean depriving someone else, close your eyes and imagine what you’ll do with the wealth you are creating. Think about the people you’ll bless, and know that when your clients pay you, they’re giving themselves the motivation to make the changes in their lives that will help them to become richer and happier, too.
The truth is, when you’re making the income you deserve by doing the work you love, you become empowered to bless hundreds more people than you could have by holding back and playing small to avoid being seen as ‘greedy’.
As a Life Coach, it is my passion to help people to live the life I just described – spending their lives doing what they love, creating magnificent wealth in the process, and using that abundance to bless the people around them.
I would love to help you to create a life like that. Today, I invite you to get in touch with my team, and see if we can help you to build a life that you’ll love living, with abundance in every area.
