For many people who want to become a Life Coach, one of the biggest things that stops them is the fear that they won’t be able to make enough money. They’re afraid that they’ll stake everything they have – their time, their career, their finances, their family and reputation – on this passion they have for helping other people… only to end up broke and embarrassed.
Is that something that’s been holding you back?
Today, I’d like to address that concern. Yes, it IS possible to make an enormous income from being a Life Coach… but only if you know how.
What keeps some Life Coaches from earning enough money with their coaching?
Here are three common mistakes that keep Life Coaches struggling to make ends meet:
1. Spending all their time on 1-on-1 coaching
One-on-one coaching is an amazing way to create deep relationships with your clients, and to get them huge results. But if you center your whole career on it, you remain stuck in a cycle of trading dollars for hours, and the only way to make as much money as you want to is to add more working hours and spend more time with clients. The goal of having a coaching business is to assist others while freeing up your time.
Did you know that some of the most successful life coaches use a group approach? It’s vital for a Life Coach to include a group program in their business. Doing so allows you to serve more people in less time, without burning yourself out. 2. Not having a proven system in place
“Winging it” in your coaching, and just solving whatever problem the client has at the time without having a comprehensive plan to move them from where they are to where they want to be, is like playing ‘whack-a-mole’. You’ll always be busy dealing with the obstacles that pop up, and not making the forward progress that you and your client want and deserve.
Because of this, you’ll get slower results for your clients and therefore fewer word-of-mouth referrals. Not because you aren’t effective, because you may be, but rather because there isn’t enough time in the day to talk to as many people as you require to create a thriving business. How can you establish yourself as an expert with only a few people knowing what you do?
3. Not knowing how to market their services
As wonderful as it would be for you to just do a good job with your coaching and have people consistently flock to your business, it doesn’t work like that. Knowing how to spread the word about yourself and your coaching, in a way that makes people eager to sign up is the key to your future success.
Does this mean you shouldn’t become a Life Coach until you have all this in place?
If you truly want to become a Life Coach, I believe that you should follow your calling. Now that you know about some possible obstacles, you have three choices:
1. Jump in right away, unprepared, unmentored and without a proven system and just hope it works.
2. Wait until you’ve got everything in order and become a Life Coach when you’re ready; a few years or decades down the road.
3. Learn how to build a seven-figure coaching business, from a person who’s done it herself.
