You’ve probably seen it a thousand times: New Years’ Resolutions that get made without real hope of being fulfilled or people mourning or joking about unfulfilled resolutions.

Coaching And yet, for a small number of people, the goals they set are the first step toward creating real, exciting, significant changes in their lives.

What’s the difference?

The difference is, the people who reach their goals and change their lives use specific principles that other people don’t. Today, I’m going to share some of the principles that I teach my Life Coaching clients, so that you and your loved ones can start using them right away.

1. Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.

It’s not enough to tell ourselves, “I’m going to stop attracting unhealthy men” or “I’m going to stop eating junk food”. That focuses our mind on the problem rather than on the solution, so instead of looking for ways to help us obtain our goal, our subconscious fixates on the thing we’re trying to avoid.

And what our subconscious fixates on is what we attract into our life… whether we want it to or not.

2. Be specific about your goal.

Don’t just say “I’m going to lose weight”. Decide how many pounds you want to shed.

Don’t tell yourself that “I’m going to get a better career”. Determine which career you’d LOVE to have.

When our goal isn’t specific, we have no way of knowing whether we’re taking enough action or the right kind of action in order to achieve it. Our subconscious also becomes unable to guide us towards our desires, and the Law of Attraction has nothing to work with.

Only when we have a specific goal and desire in mind can we move toward it with certainty and confidence, and only then are we able to easily attract the people and circumstances that will help us create what we want.

3. Set a timeframe.

If we don’t set a timeframe, it becomes easy to procrastinate and think we’re doing enough when the level of action that we’re taking will actually take years to bring us to our goal.

So when you’re laying out the specifics of your resolution, make time a part of your description. “I’m going to lose 10 pounds in the next 3 months.”

Or, “I’m going to start my dream career by the end of the summer. ”

Once you have a clear goal and a specific amount of time in which to accomplish it, you become able to take the next step, which is…

4. Make a plan.

If you want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months, what kind of exercises will you do, and how frequently? What healthy eating habits are you going to cultivate? What research will you do to determine the method that’s best suited for your body type?

If you want to switch careers by the end of the summer, when will you determine what kind of career you want to create? What is the first step you will take toward starting that career? The second? The third? When will you leave your current job?

Lay out a list of specific action steps you plan to take, and when you plan to take them. Put them in your calendar, and carry them out.

And if you fall a bit behind schedule, or something doesn’t work as planned, don’t give up. Learn from the experience, adjust your plan, and keep going.

Do you want to help the people around you accomplish their goals?

I’m sure you’ve seen it all around you: people who desperately long to be healthier, happier, more in tune with their purpose, more wealthy, less stressed, happily married, or any of a myriad of desires that they don’t know how to fulfill.

What if you could be the person to teach them how to reach those goals, and create the joy that they’ve been missing for most or all of their lives?

And what if you could make a 6-figure income in the process, so you don’t have to have a job on the side?

If this is something you want to do, or if you want to learn more, I invite you to get in touch with my team and explore whether becoming a Life Coach is right for you. Just fill out the form on the right, and we’ll be in contact soon.

Here’s to your dream,

Mary
